   Proposal Description:
   Emerging literature has shown that APOE allele status is associated with a reduction in abstinence from cigarette smoking among older adults. This phenomenon may be related to changes in cognitive control among APOE e4 carriers. The aim of this analysis is to expand the literature on APOE allele status and relationship to abstinence from cigarette smoking. We will analyze older adults with normal cognition who are participating in the NACC UDS dataset and compare APOE carriers to noncarriers. The scientific/clinical significance of this analysis is the potential prediction of abstinence from cigarette smoking based on APOE allele status.
